Cat Enclosures, Page 2

cat-enclosure-1

This is a cat enclosure that was built for a customer in MA without post extenders. There is a welded wire metal base in addition to the standard poly cat fencing mesh. The fence line is positioned with woods in the background and the fence blends in nicely. The fence might have blended in too well because a bear ended up walking into the fence and causing some damage.
For the first month and also the first winter, if you're in an area with abundant wildlife like deer and bears, it's important to watch your enclosure carefully. Deer and other wildlife may walk into your fence by accident if it's in an area that they travel. If this is a concern, you can hang some flagging tape that's used by surveyors (found near the tape measures in home depot for example) at waist level to alert them that something is there. The flagging tape is light and will move slightly in a breeze as well. You can usually take down the tape after wildlife has learned the perimeter of your enclosure.

Note: bird feeders are a big bear attractant. Also, when planning your enclosure always create an escape route for your cats, such as a cat door they can run inside from danger.
